SU Florence professor Rab Hatfield is a real life Robert Langdon. The art history professor spied two cryptic messages–one in Latin and the other in Greek– within Botticelli’s masterpiece “The Mystic Nativity”.
After extensive research, Hatfield discovered that the two messages were the link between Botticelli and Savonarola, a fifteenth century priest who hated the vanities of Florence and urged people to give up their extravagant clothing and lifestyles.
Hatfield’s exciting discovery is now the subject of an episode of the BBC Documentary series “The Private Life of a Masterpiece.”
How cool is that?!
