Keeping up with our centers: art exhibits, leadership, and marathons, oh my!

LDNconfSU London students presented at the Foundation for International Education Student Global Leadership Conference. Their presentation was entitled “Leadership: It’s personal,” and was about ethical values and leadership.

In Florence, on March 25 the SUF studio art department hosted an exhibit by Caterina Sbrana, a talented up-and-coming young Italian artist who has shown at the Marino Marini Museum in Florence and is also taking part in the prestigious Venice Biennale this year. Sbrana’s art combines high-tech contemporary methods with traditional techniques. Her installation in the Villa Rossa was breathtaking. Thanks to the efforts of Stefania Talini and Kirsten Stromberg, as well as the contacts of curator Paola Borlotti, the turn-out was very impressive: Florentine artists, professors of the Accademia delle Belle Arti, art critics, and journalists, in addition to SUF students and staff. The successful show brought many people to SUF’s beautiful Villa Rossa for the first time.

If you’re lucky enough to be fluent in Italian, you can read coverage of the event from the local press here, here, here, and here. Photos of the event are on our Facebook page here.

Two of our SU London students also ran the Paris Marathon this weekend – so a BIG congratulations to Jenna Lonczak and Morgan Begy! We’ll add pictures and first-person accounts as soon as they’ve had a chance to catch their breaths! UPDATE: Here’s the interview SU London’s Josh did with Jenna & Morgan!
