Eight students from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications will be attending the prestigious Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in Cannes, France as part of the International Digital & Social Media Platforms Study Abroad Program. This innovative course takes a comprehensive look at international digital and social media platforms and best practices. This is the second time this course has been offered and this is the second group from Syracuse University to attend Cannes Lions.
This program is under the direction of Dr. William J. Ward, professor of practice of social media in the Newhouse School. Prior to departure, students are introduced to different international social media platforms and multi-faceted influences such as cultural, political, legal, and economic factors. Students also receive Hootsuite Social Media Certification, an industry-leading standard, as part of the course. At the Festival they will continue to learn first hand with industry pros about digital and social media best practice from around the world.
The course is based at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in Cannes, France, where students will learn along side over 12,000 delegates from 90 countries and attend workshops, exhibitions, screenings, master classes and high-profile seminars by industry thought leaders and innovators during the week-long conference. Students will leave on June 13 and return on June 24.
“Cannes Lions is the only place where you can gain international digital and social media inspiration and education from so many different countries at one gathering.” says Ward. “This learning experience will give participants a competitive advantage in the global marketplace,” according to Ward
The students will be blogging and live tweeting daily about their experience from Cannes Lions. Follow them on Twitter via #NewhouseIDSM.
