One of the most common struggles for students abroad is learning a new language or even new slang. In his blog “Perdido in Translation,” SU Santiago student Shaheem talks about his experiences in both Ecuador and Chile, especially highlighting the differences in his language lessons.

On learning to speak Spanish, Shaheem writes:

“Being in Ecuador makes me more confident in more Spanish; I am realizing that I know how to say a lot in Spanish and even some random words like zipper (cremallera) or dream-catcher (atrapasueños).”

From the mundane to country-specific slang, Shaheem is delving into the Spanish language and finding the intricacies that accompany it. To read more about Shaheem’s travels visit his blog here.
